We Only Install Pool Covers — And We Do Them Better Than Anyone Else

Logo for Designer Pool Covers featuring a stylized sun over blue waves to the left of the company name in gray lowercase letters, ideal for use in a WordPress header or Elementor footer.

If you landed here because you’re wondering what exactly does Designer Pool Covers do, this is the honest answer. We supply, install, and maintain swimming pool covers across South Africa. That’s it. Not the pumps. Not the chemicals. Not the pool itself.

We’ve built our reputation on being brilliant at one thing.

What We Actually Do

We do two things, and we do them properly:

1. We Install Pool Covers

Four types, custom-made for your pool, installed by our own teams across South Africa — Cape Town, Johannesburg, Germiston, Durban, Nelspruit, Polokwane, and Potchefstroom.

We also offer specialist product lines like the PoolLock V5M Easy-Glide and Saf-T®3 Electric Cover for specific pool configurations.

2. We Maintain Pool Covers

We service, repair and re-fit the pool covers we’ve installed. Belts, motors, tracks, fabric replacements, mechanism adjustments — if it’s part of a pool cover, we look after it.

What We Don’t Do

Here’s where we save you time. If you need any of the below, we’re not the right call. But we’ve listed exactly who is.

Service We Don’t OfferWho To Call Instead
Pool cleaning & general servicingA local pool service company
Chemicals (chlorine, pH, algaecide)Any pool retailer or the pool aisle at Builders Warehouse
Pool pumps, motors & installationA pool equipment specialist or plumber
Pool filters, filter cleaning & replacementA pool equipment specialist
Pool heaters (gas, electric or solar)A dedicated heating installer
Water testing, balancing & treatmentA qualified pool service technician
Pool construction & new buildsA pool builder
Pool renovation, resurfacing & fibreglassingA pool renovation specialist
Pool financing or loansYour bank or a specialist finance broker
Pool fencing (glass, metal, mesh)A dedicated pool fencing installer

General pool design or landscapingA pool designer or landscape architect

Please don’t take offence when we redirect you. It means we care enough about your pool to send you to someone who’ll do the job properly, rather than pretend we can do it ourselves.

Why We Specialise

We started this business in South Africa because we saw pool owners spending too much money, chemicals, and heat on uncovered pools — and we saw pool installers treating covers as an afterthought. Twelve-plus years later, we’ve stayed in one lane on purpose.

Specialising means:

  • Our teams install pool covers every day — not “sometimes, when we’re not doing pumps”
  • Every installation is measured, custom-made, and fitted properly
  • If something goes wrong two years later, we’re the ones who fixed it — not a general contractor who’s moved on
  • We know every make, model, and mechanism we sell, and we stock the parts

If you want a specialist for the one thing on your property that reduces evaporation by up to 80%, saves you 70% on chemicals, and stops accidents — you’ve found one.

FAQs

Do you sell pool chemicals?

No. We only supply and install pool covers. For chemicals we recommend Builders Warehouse, Pool Spa, or your nearest pool retailer. That said — one of our thermal blankets can reduce chemical consumption by 30-50%, so we do help you spend less on chemicals over time.

Do you clean or service pool pumps?

No. We install pool covers, not pool equipment. A local pool service technician is your best call for pump work.

Do you clean pool filters?

No, we don’t service any pool equipment. But our covers keep leaves and debris out of the water, which means your filter needs cleaning far less often. Some customers find their filter cleaning frequency drops by more than half after a cover is fitted.

Can you help with pool renovation, resurfacing or new pool construction?

We don’t do renovations, resurfacing, or new pool builds. If you’re renovating and want a new pool cover installed as part of the project, we’re happy to coordinate directly with your renovation contractor at the design stage — that way the cover integrates properly with the new pool.

Do you install pool heaters?

No. A thermal blanket is a heat retainer, not a heater. It reduces evaporative heat loss (the biggest source of pool heat loss) and can raise water temperature by 4-8°C on its own. For mechanical heating you’ll need a specialist installer.

Do you offer pool safety fencing?

We don’t install glass, metal, or mesh pool fencing. However, our automatic and manual safety covers are compliant safety devices that seal the pool surface entirely — often chosen instead of a fence because they don’t obstruct the view of the garden.

Do you sell pool nets?

Not anymore. We stopped offering pool nets because a properly installed safety cover offers stronger protection with no sagging, no manual removal, and no gaps. If you were looking for a net, our pet & child safety covers are what you actually want.

What exactly do you offer, then?

Swimming pool covers, custom-made and installed properly. Four core product ranges: thermal blankets, PVC slide-on safety covers, PoolDeck slatted automatic covers, and PoolLock vinyl automatic covers. Plus ongoing maintenance on any pool cover we’ve installed. Nothing else.

I just need to buy a chlorine tablet — can you help?

No, sorry. Please try Builders Warehouse or your local pool shop. We only sell pool covers.

Ready For a Pool Cover?

If you’re the right kind of visitor — one who’s tired of leaves, evaporation, or worrying about kids and pets around the pool — we’d love to help.
